Lincoln Colcord was a notable Maine author and translator of stories about the sea. Like his sister, Joanna Colcord, he was born at sea during a voyage of his father, ship's master Lincoln A. Colcord, undertaken after his marriage to Joanna French Sweetser. Ship's masters were allowed to bring their families with them on voyages.
